The SCMP has a story today about a growing number of university professors fabricating research results. They write:
A recent survey of 180 PhD holders found that 60 per cent had paid to have papers published and a similar percentage had copied others' work. In the latest scandal, Sichuan University biomedicine professor Qiu Xiaoqing has been accused of fabricating results in a research paper published in the November 2003 issue of international journal Nature Biotechnology.
And in December, a court in Tianjin found that an associate professor at the Tianjin Foreign Studies University, Shen Luwei , had plagiarised 10 articles in one of his publications. He was ordered to pay 2,000 yuan to the author of the work and was removed from his teaching post.
