The Shanghai Daily reports:
The city's rapidly expanding subway network is facing a severe shortage of engineers and properly trained managers, according to a human resources guidebook published by the Shanghai Personnel Bureau yesterday.
The city's Metro system and maglev line will need 14,000 engineers and managers by 2010, according to the report, but currently there are only 6,049 such professionals working in the city. The report said similar shortages threaten several other industries, including auto and equipment manufacturing, astronautics, ship building, and construction.
