The FT reports:
The former head of China’s drugs regulator went on trial Wednesday in Beijing on charges of accepting bribes to approve untested medicines and other breaches of duty.
The trial comes at a time of mounting crisis in China’s food and drug safety system following a series of scandals that have been linked to deaths both in China and overseas.
A court official at the Beijing No 1 Intermediate Court confirmed Wednesday that the trial of Zheng Xiaoyu, the former director of the State Food and Drug Administration who was sacked from the post in 2005, had begun.
